Description:
Schumann's Davidsbündlertänze Op. 6 was composed in 1837. The eponymous Davidsbund, named after the patron saint of music, the biblical philistine and royal singer, is to be understood as a Romantic-literary production, in which poetic models as well as genuinely artistic or political connections of the pre-March period were the inspiration. The Davidsbündlertänze are a cycle of two sets of nine pieces in which the traditions of the suite and the variation cycle continue. The edition is based on the second edition edited by Schumann himself, whereby musically significant deviations from the first version are also printed in small print.
