Description:
The French Overture BWV 831 was published by J.S. Bach in 1735 together with the famous Italian Concerto as the second part of his 'Clavier-Übung'. The designation as 'overture' may be somewhat deceptive, because this work is not just an opening movement, but a full-blown partita with 11 movements: Overture, Courante, Gavotte I & II, Passepied I & II, Sarabande, Bourrée I & II, Gigue and Echo. In terms of melodic inventiveness and rhythmic joy of playing, it is in no way inferior to its sisters from the 1st part of the 'Clavier-Übung', the 6 Partitas BWV 825-830.
