July 2010 - the whole country is groaning under the unbearable summer heat. Ideal conditions for writing a Christmas carol piano book. Ten arrangements of well-known winter and Christmas songs invite pianists and listeners on a journey through the stylistic diversity of jazz, rock and pop music. Samba, salsa, funk and swing, among others, can be played and heard, and there is a notated improvisation part for each arrangement. The songs have been assigned to three levels of difficulty. In addition to the sheet music and the enclosed CD, a little background information on the time of origin, place of origin, protagonists, typical musical characteristics or simply the mood of the individual styles is provided.Although played with a slight wink, the arrangements are to be understood as a deep bow to the rich treasure of our song heritage; according to the motto: "Now it s(w)ings and sounds so sweet and fine,"... My special thanks go to Strube Verlag Munich, who immediately accepted my idea and, as always, put it on paper quickly and very professionally. I would also like to thank the studio manager Dirk Homann, who patiently recorded the songs in rainy August, my esteemed colleagues Tilman Droste and Michael Schütz for their expert advice and especially my wife Carola, who had to endure the creation of winter and Christmas song arrangements in the middle of July and still enjoys listening to the originals...André Engelbrecht
"Engelbrecht sets five sacred and five secular Christmas carols to music in different styles and divided into three levels of difficulty, but always with the same formal scheme of carol arrangement - notated improvisation part, which invites you to improvise further - carol arrangement to a very varied and stimulating round of Christmas carols. The sacred arrangements (EG 8, 47, 48, 46, 32) can be used well for church services and Christmas celebrations in parish halls where no organ is available. In addition to the musical text, there is background information for each title on the time and place of origin, protagonists, typical musical characteristics of the styles used: shuffle, samba, swing, bossa nova, rock, salsa, funk, reggae, slow waltz and pop ballad.
