Mit den Intervallen spielen Schon in den 'Quint-Spielen' (EB 8749) hat Barbara Heller kurze Klavierstücke zu einem bestimmten Intervall komponiert. Im 'Intervallbuch' überträgt sie nun dieses Konzept auf die übrigen Intervalle. Für Sekunde bis Oktave gibt es jeweils 4 bis 5 Stücke, die progressiv geordnet sind. Hinter so plastischen Titeln wie 'Die schüchterne Sekunde', 'Die faule Terz', 'Sextenblues' und 'Wo will die Septime hin?' verbergen sich zunächst kurzweilige Spielstücke. Doch das 'Intervallbuch' bietet noch mehr. Die begleitenden Texte von Sigrid Naumann ermutigen zum freien Umgang mit dem notierten Material, zum Variieren, Improvisieren und Weiterkomponieren.
