Isaac Manuel Francisco Albéniz (* May 29, 1860 in Camprodon, Girona; † May 18, 1909 in Cambo-les-Bains, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France) was a Spanish composer and pianist. Isaac Albéniz was considered a piano prodigy. He gave his first concert at the age of four. He fled at the age of twelve as a stowaway on a ship to Puerto Rico, from there to Buenos Aires, then on to Cuba. He studied at the conservatory in Leipzig in 1874, including with Carl Reinecke (1824-1910), where he met Franz Liszt in 1880. The latter was so impressed by Albéniz's piano playing that Albéniz continued his studies with Liszt. Albéniz lived in Barcelona again from 1883 to 1885. In 1890, Albéniz left Spain and went to London, but returned to Spain in 1893 before moving to Paris in 1902 and remaining in France until his death.
