Description:
The work has its origins in an environment largely devoted to the publication of recordings of improvisations I made a few years ago on the Great Organs of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, on piano as part of the Lausanne Improvised Music Festival, and most recently on two pianos with Samuel Liégeon. A simple, light-hearted project: to write, rather quickly, a fairly long piece in which the decisive steps forward would be driven by a certain urgency, by the spontaneity of responses, certainly fuelled by contexts, but having to intervene without delay with the imperative immediacy of improvisation. I was thinking of the Impromptus by Schubert, Fauré, Scriabin? Each < moment > was worked on for as long as necessary, but when it was important to continue, I submitted the situation to the springs of improvisation, then in charge of capturing the decisive connivance of a proposal and the nature of an appropriate response. Then came the arbitration of vigilant evaluation and any necessary adjustments. Here, the piano is amply resonant, memory is at work, the hands closely receptive to the keyboard's calls.
