Description:
Joseph Hauer's (1883-1959) life was quite undramatic, but in the musical field he was revolutionary. He proved the fundamental equality of all notes in the tempered system and invented the "twelve-tone playing". In 1923 Hauer was inspired by Friedrich Hölderlin's work on the above-mentioned piano pieces. He used one or two lines from various poems and fragments and combined them with his structured, but always melodic twelve-tone music.
