Description:
The genre of the piano sonata has accompanied Krenek since 1919; the impressive Sonata op. 240 was created as a sonorous gift to the pianist Geoffrey Douglas Madge on the occasion of his complete recording of Krenek's piano sonatas and was presented as a printed edition in 1990, on the composer's 90th birthday. "In contrast to my earlier sonatas, the Seventh Sonata has only one movement, in which some of the traditionally expected characters can be found condensed episodically and fragmentarily." A transparent, atmospheric work full of subtle nuances. A musical language opens up to the sensitive interpreter, which in its sovereign independence and truthfulness already bears traits of modern classical music.
