These little pieces are written in large notes and given appealing titles: "Great sorrow", "Congratulations for grandmother", "Raindrops", which both motivate the children and ensure progress. They accompany their development in the first two years, with each piece focusing on a new learning experience. The collection is the biggest publishing success in Mel Bonis' lifetime.
At the time of the album's first release, Mel Bonis received letters of praise, such as this letter from Marcelle Cheridjan, a Swiss concert pianist:
"Your little pieces are simply delightful! From a pedagogical point of view, I find them perfect, perhaps because they correspond to my understanding of piano lessons for the very youngest ... Several of my pupils are already asking me for them for their own pupils. It will be a success!"
