Description:
Volume 6 of the series "Arrangements of Works by Other Composers" contains arrangements for piano for two hands (Part 1). The arrangements of Johann Sebastian Bach's "Selected Organ Works" and the concert versions of piano pieces by Friedrich Kuhlau, Franz Schubert, and Frédéric Chopin were composed as early as the 1890s. With their numerous, technically highly demanding additions to the original musical text, they were intended for the virtuosos of the time. The arrangements of Bach's chorale preludes, which Reger respectfully called "symphonic poems in miniature," are, by contrast, intended for teaching purposes. Finally, the piano versions of the five slow movements from Johannes Brahms's symphonies reflect, in their performance instructions, Reger's interpretations of Brahms's works during his tenure as court Kapellmeister in Meiningen. Since January 2008, the Max Reger Institute (MRI) in Karlsruhe has been working on a scholarly-critical edition of Reger's works (RWA). It is funded by the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature and, as a hybrid edition, breaks new ground in editorial techniques. The digital resources accompanying this volume are published on an online portal. / Contents: Johann Sebastian Bach, Selected Organ Works, Bach-B1; Franz Schubert, Divertissement à la hongroise, Schubert-B1; Friedrich Kuhlau, Allegro burlesco from Opus 88 No. 3, Kuhlau-B1, Five Special Studies for Pianoforte (Arrangements of Chopin's Works), Chopin-B1, Second Study on Fr.
