Description:
Rondo After Eight is a concert piece with a jazz character, inspired by the publication 'After Another Eight' from this publisher. With this edition, which is possible for both two pianos and piano four hands, the technical, piano-related requirements have been expanded, making its use also possible for competitions.
The title indicates that the characteristic of the rondo lies in its eight rhythm. The underlying 8/4 time signature is a combination of two triplet beats and one duplet beat. Comparable to a 5/4 time signature, where 3 and 2 are combined and which forms the basis of the world-famous 'Take Five', a dance-like effect is created, which is particularly appealing due to its broken metric.
Inserted into the rondo form is a 'funk section', which corresponds to the jazz rhythm with its 'normal' 4/4 time signature. The question of whether the eighth notes should be played ternary (i.e., triplet) or binary ('straight') does not arise in 'Rondo After Eight'. The eighth notes should be played in a steady tenuto.
This edition includes a binding identical to the score for individual practice in duo.
