Description:
On April 27 and 28, 1945, a stream of Dachau 'protective custody prisoners' dragged themselves past us – endless was the stream, endless the misery, endless the suffering. Deeply shaken by the horrors of the death march, Karl Amadeus Hartmann created a poignant and deeply humanistic memorial with his 2nd Piano Sonata ("April 27, 1945"). This expressive masterpiece for solo piano unites dramatic sonic power with moments of intimate sorrow and unwavering hope, challenging performers on both the highest musical and emotional levels. Published by Schott Musik as a convenient sheet music download, this digital edition gives you immediate access to one of the most stirring and significant piano works of the 20th century. A truly moving addition to any sophisticated concert repertoire.
