Description:
This sonata for piano was first published in 1927 as volume 140 of the "Hofmeisters Hausmusik" series by Friedrich Hofmeister Musikverlag and has now been newly set. It follows his post-romantic compositional style, which is characterized by catchy melodies and an interesting, but not too exuberant harmony, which is nevertheless committed to modernism. While the first movement of this sonata is extremely expressive and almost dramatic in its classical sonata form, the second movement is characterized by a lively minuet. Dressel rounded off this work in the third and final movement with variations on previous themes, which are contrasted with a short, cheerful sonatina.
Thanks to the revised new edition, this work is also accessible to ambitious enthusiasts in its medium to high level of difficulty.
