Spider Silk

Spider Silk by Kevin Olson weaves an enchanting web of sound, blending elegance with a touch of mystery. Written for intermediate to late intermediate pianists, this lyrical solo shimmers with a tempo marking of misterioso e leggiero—light and mysterious. Chromatic passages glide across the keyboard, supported by expressive pedaling and graceful hand crossings that allow students to explore the piano's full range. The result is a piece that feels both delicate and dramatic, like the gossamer threads of a spider's web catching the light. Olson's signature jazz influences shine through in the harmonies and phrasing, giving the work a sophisticated flair that sets it apart from typical Halloween fare. Spider Silk is the perfect choice for students eager to combine technical growth with imaginative storytelling, as it strengthens control of touch, pedaling, and expressive balance. With its haunting elegance and polished style, this piece will captivate audiences at recitals and become a seasonal favorite year after year.
