In the fall of 2024, the Morgan Library in New York reported a sensation: its curator Robinson McClellan had discovered a postcard-sized manuscript of a waltz in A minor with the heading "Chopin" in an estate. Chopin experts from all over the world have now checked and confirmed the authenticity of the manuscript: it is undoubtedly an autograph by the Polish composer, and moreover, the short waltz is a previously unknown original work. Scientists and pianists have been in waltz fever ever since!
In close cooperation with the Morgan Library, G. Henle Verlag has the privilege of presenting the first Urtext edition of the new Chopin Waltz: in addition to the musical text edited by Jeffrey Kallberg, it also offers a facsimile of the autograph. In his afterword, the internationally renowned Chopin researcher offers exciting reflections on the origin and purpose of the small composition. Star pianist Lang Lang was won over for the fingering, who carried this sensational discovery around the world with his first recording. A treasure for all Chopin fans and piano lovers!
