Description:
The character of the individual dances soon approaches the lively Viennese waltz, more often the lazily swaying Ländler, occasionally there is a distant echo of Schubert or Schumann. Towards the end of the booklet it sounds like the clattering of spurs, at first softly as if rehearsing, then ever more resolutely and fierily - we are, without question, on Hungarian soil... (...) The Brahms booklet spares the player any bravura or effort, but appeals to a fine musical feeling... (dedicatee Eduard Hanslick, 1866)
