Description:
Adagio con Sordino is the version for string quartet of an instrumental interlude from the vocal cycle Les Fleurs du Mal - Twelve Songs and Dances inspired by Charles-Pierre Baudelaire, composed by Vladimir Genin. From the very first bars, the work unfolds a veiled light, permeated by subtle melancholy. The musical progression gradually intensifies, gaining in intensity and leading to a dramatic but always restrained climax - as if captured in a single breath. The piece ends in a delicate, almost breathy fade - a floating farewell full of subtlety. With its introspective atmosphere and compact form, Adagio con Sordino makes for a touching conclusion to a concert program - especially as an encore.
