Description:
Bella Máté composed his violin-cello duo Airambulum in 2024. The piece has two movements. The first, titled Air, is a slow, mournful piece based on one of the closing themes from his opera-oratorio Passió. The second movement, Preambulum, is more energetic and draws on structural ideas from Baroque ritornello form.
In its use of harmony, melody, rhythm, and form, the work combines elements of post-minimalism and neo-Baroque style. The piece explores how older musical ideas can be used in a way that keeps both traditional and more modern elements naturally connected for the listener.
