Description:
At the Foot of the Hafursey Mountains by Ewen Cousin is directly inspired by the Icelandic landscapes - vast, mineral and characterized by silence - which become the starting point for musical reflection. The piece juxtaposes a string quartet with sequenced analog electronics, creating a subtle dialog between the acoustic and the digital. The composition explores slowness, breathing and contained tension and gives each sound the time to unfold. The electronics not only accompany the strings, they extend their gestures, become their shadow and echo and contribute to shaping a unique sound space. The musical texture, at once minimalist and organic, is reminiscent of motionless landscapes, hovering between nature and abstraction. Every motif, every resonance seems to find its place in a wide inner horizon in which contemplation and precision of writing merge. Through its balance of tension and gentleness, the work invites the listener to a deep, almost physical immersion in a universe of sound that is both intimate and monumental.
