Description:
Concubia nocte is the second of four compositions to refer to the Roman vigils. The work primarily features quartertone harmonies and revolves around the topics of dusk, night, spheres, dreams, sleeplessness and hallucination. As the guiding principle behind the work, there thus emerge shifting threads of sound - now static, now in motion - that push the melodic aspect wholly into the background. This microtonal music, and its surprising resolution, is something the composer repeatedly hears in the semi-conscious state between sleep and sleeplessness.
