Description:
Errant Fragments breaks with the traditional unity of the string quartet. Instead of a continuous motivic development, the work presents isolated musical particles that wander like flotsam between the four voices. Fragments appear, disappear again and are alienated or carried on without ever coming to rest completely. These "stray fragments" seem to search in vain for a harmonious home. The piece constantly moves between chaos and order, individual freedom and collective structure, and requires the players to constantly renegotiate this fragile balance.
