Description:
Further evidence needs to be gathered in order to place the undated String Quintet in D Minor chronologically within Emilie Mayers catalogue of works. Having been performed one year later than a previously presented quintet in D major (published with the edition number fue 10385), it can be considered the third work in this series and dated to around 1855. The score has been written with extreme care, and Mayer herself clearly considered the composition a success because she sent the work to Franz Liszt requesting a piano arrangement. Although he politely declined, at the same time he expressed his great esteem. The work is of medium difficulty.
