Immediately after his successful publications of the cello etudes by Popper, Duport, Grützmacher and Lee, Martin Rummel turned his pedagogical attention to the important opus 11 by Josef Merk (1795-1852).
Merk was one of the most influential cellists in the first half of the 19th century and enjoyed the admiration of Beethoven, Schubert and Chopin. The Etudes op. 11, dedicated to Schubert, have remained a classic in cello lessons to this day.
Martin Rummel has compiled his new edition of the Etudes op. 11 on the basis of the first edition published by the Viennese publisher Haslinger. The editor has sparingly added fingerings, bowings and slurs and marked them editorially so that the player can easily recognize these additions.
