Vivienne Olive was born in London in 1950. She received piano and music theory lessons at an early age and studied harpsichord and organ at Trinity College of Music in London. In 1968, she continued her music studies at the University of York, England (B.A.). She then specialized in composition, first with Bernard Rands (York), then with Franco Donatoni (Milan), Roman Haubenstock-Ramati (Vienna) and Klaus Huber (Freiburg). She has received various awards, including first prize at the GEDOK competition for female composers (Leni-Neuenschwander Prize), the Stuttgart Promotion Prize ("Tomba di Bruno"), first prize from the city of Hamelin for works for youth orchestras ("An English Suite"), and in 2019 the special prize from Furore Verlag for her work "Les oiseaux fous".
