Among the most popular works by Johannes Brahms are his twenty-one Hungarian Dances for piano solo – inspired by Hungarian music, whose temperament and richness of colour he came to know through his friend Eduard Reményi. Since their composition, Brahms’s Dances have circulated in countless arrangements for the most diverse instrumentations. Many cellists today do not consider Alfredo Piatti’s arrangement for violoncello and piano to be entirely successful. Therefore Jean-Guihen Queyras and his piano partner Alexandre Tharaud have prepared new arrangements of seven of the most popular dances. These arrangements can already be heard on a Brahms album by these two musicians. Henle Publishers counts itself fortunate to present these gems in print!
