Description:
Virtuoser Jazz in klassischer Form: Nikolai Kapustin (geb. 1937) ist ein exzellenter Jazz-Pianist, Arrangeur und Komponist. Das Stück Elegy entstand im Jahr 1999 zusammen mit zwei weiteren Werken für Violoncello und Klavier (Nearly Waltz: ED 22852, Burlesque). Elegy ist feierlich und dabei nachdenklich: Obwohl Kapustin das Tempo mit Grave angibt, ist es doch eher nostalgisch als traurig. Auf eine kurze Klavier-Introduktion folgt das wunderschöne Hauptthema im Cello, das im Mittelteil durch eine Slow Jazz Sequenz weiterentwickelt wird, bevor es wieder in die Stimmung vom Anfang zurückkehrt.
