David Popper's suite in six movements Im Walde is known to cellists primarily from collections for cello and piano, which include the Gnomentanz and the Andacht. However, these popular movements are only two of six character pieces that were published in Hamburg in 1882 under the title Im Walde as Popper's Opus 50. Eintritt, Reigen, Herbstblume and Heimkehr are the titles of the other pieces, which also have their own charm.
The new edition is the first complete edition of the work since 1882. The publication, edited by Martin Rummel, contains two cello parts, one with David Popper's fingerings and line markings and one adapted to the requirements of modern cello playing by Martin Rummel.
