Description:
Der belgische Komponist und Cellist Louis Jean Marie Baerwolf (Barwolf) wurde 1841 in Brügge geboren (das genaue Geburtsdatum ist unbekannt) und starb am 12.1.1899 in Brüssel. Er erhielt den ersten Unterricht in Violine, Cello und Klavier am Conservatoire in Lüttich und spielte schon als Jugendlicher die Orgel in seiner Heimatstadt Brügge. Ab 1862 studierte er am Conservatoire Royal in Brüssel und wirkte dort nach dem Studium viele Jahre am Théâtre Royale de la Monnaie, wo sein Bruder Jean Dirigent war. Von 1889-1898 arbeitete er als Bibliothekar dieses Theaters. Baerwolf komponierte vor allem Kirchenmusik, darunter ein Requiem, mehrere Messen und Motetten sowie Lieder, Kammermusik und ein Cellokonzert op. 48. Bei Schott erschienen zwei Kompositionen für Cello und Klavier: ein Mouve ment perpétuel op. 66 sowie das hier ausgewählte melodische Morceau de Salon op. 54, das ein schönes Zugabestück ist. Es erschien 1873 bei Schott unter der Plattennummer 20831.
