This edition of Mozart's Sonata for Bassoon and Violoncello K. 292 (196c) breaks new ground: on the one hand, it strictly follows the Urtext of the New Mozart Edition in the rendering of the obbligato melody parts; on the other hand, it enriches the interpretation of the work by including an additional piano part in the spirit of the basso continuo practice still alive in Mozart's time.
This charming work can be performed in several versions from this edition: as a duo sonata according to the surviving musical text, as a solo sonata for violoncello or bassoon with piano accompaniment and as a small ensemble work for two melody instruments (bassoons or violoncellos or in mixed instrumentation) and piano or harpsichord.
