Description:
This sonata for cello and piano is a concert piece in three movements, characterized by profound lyricism and a beautiful, expressive intensity. Rooted in the late Romantic tradition and colored by the melodic hues of the Armenian school, it combines the warmth of song with rhythmic energy. The first movement begins with a contemplative Andante sostenuto, a long cantilena on the cello, supported by an expressive piano, before gaining momentum and transitioning into a more animated, passionate Allegro. The second movement, Andante, offers a moment of reflection and tenderness, in which the melodic line unfolds with poignant simplicity. The finale, Allegro vivace, brilliant and lively, draws the two instruments into a spirited dialogue, culminating in a rousing conclusion. Combining depth of expression with virtuosity, this sonata offers both performers a rich and rewarding work that showcases the lyrical power of the cello as well as the richness of the piano.
