The Sonata for Piano and Violoncello in A major, which appears here in print for the first time, was presumably composed between 1873 and 1883, when Emilie Mayer created significant parts of her chamber music oeuvre. It is part of a repertoire of a total of 11 works for this instrumentation, of which only three were published in print.1 Stylistic criteria suggest that these works were composed at a later date.
