Sergei Prokofiev’s Symphonic Concerto for Cello and Piano Op. 125 stands as a monumental achievement in the 20th-century cello repertoire. Composed between 1950 and 1952 in close collaboration with volume editor Mstislav Rostropovich, the Symphonic Concerto is a comprehensive reworking of Prokofiev’s earlier Cello Concerto Op. 58. The composer expanded the traditional concerto form by combining it with symphonic elements to striking effect. This reprint of a licensed historical edition, intended for intermediate to advanced players, features a piano reduction that incorporates both the orchestral part and the original solo cello line.
