This edition provides us - in addition to aids such as a practice plan, prelude and warm-up exercises, finger strengthening exercises and bowing technique - with 18 practice blocks, each of which is practiced intensively for 3-4 weeks and each of which is dedicated to a specific focus.
Ulrich Lau was born in Bergen auf Rügen and studied at the Cologne Academy of Music. After his first engagement at the Hanover State Theater, he joined the Württemberg State Orchestra as solo bassist in 1967. In 1973 he moved to the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra. He had already taken on a teaching position at the Stuttgart University of Music in 1967, where he has been a full-time professor since 1980. He was a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra from 1971-75 and has played in the Ludwigsburg Festival Orchestra since 1973. He has given numerous recitals as a soloist. He has also performed with his double bass quartet and the double bass ensemble. Many of his students are now double bass professors, soloists or teachers.
