Description:
This piece relates a muddled mixture of anguish, malaise and liberation. Composed shortly after an important competition, begun in a train and completed in the springtime tranquillity of a studio in Aix-en-Provence, the piece must be played impassioned and mournful, in turn. Its improvised nature must be felt in the handling of the discourse: the performer has to give the illusion of music being born on the edge of the bow, with clashes and erring ways along with the freshness characteristic of improvised music.
