Description:
Carl August Nielsen wurde 1865 bei Odense geboren und starb 1931 in Kopenhagen. Ér war der Sohn eines Dorfgeigers, der ihn im Violinspiel unterwies und als Trompeter in ein Infanterieregiment in Odense schickte. Nielsen fand 19-jährig Aufnahme im Kopenhagener Konservatorium, wo er bei Tofte, Gade und Rosenhoff studierte. Von 1886 bis 1905 war er Violinist im Hoforchester und von 1908 bis 1914, als Nachfolger Svendsens, Hofkapellmeister. Bis 1927 dirigierte er die Musikforeningen und unterrichtete ab 1915 auch am Konservatorium. Nielsen war einer der bedeutendsten skandinavischen Komponisten nach Grieg: Fortschrittlich, aber Vollkommen unabhängig von einer Richtung. Er schrieb zahlreiche Violinsonaten, Klavierstücke und Orchesterwerke . Die vorliegende Romance, ein wunderschönes Vortragsstück von kraftvoller Melodik, ist seit Jahrzehnten vergriffen. In der Reihe 'Morceaux de Salon' des Musikverlag Varner sind noch zahlreiche weitere musikalische Kostbarkeiten erschienen.
