Description:
The aim of transcribing these sonatas was to make them available to violists, whether playing modern or period instruments, the musical, stylistic and technical quintessence of the art of the violin in the early 18th century.
We strove to scrupulously respect Corelli's original manuscript and, for the ornamentation of the slow movements, relied on the edition realised by Estienne Roger, in which are found the 'Adagios composed by Mr Corelli as he plays them'.
A thorough-bass realisation is proposed, but this edition of course allows continuo players to exercise their talents should they prefer (solo cello part provided).
This first book comprises Sonatas 1, 2 and 3, which are related to the sonata da chiesa form.
Certain movements of these sonatas can be tackled in the course of the second cycle, whereas others require greater instrumental mastery.
