The rediscovery of the original manuscripts of Max Reger's works for violin, viola and violoncello op. 131a-d in the Prague Conservatory Library represents a small sensation. These late works for solo strings, the last of which only appeared posthumously, were previously only known from their first prints. The Preludes and Fugues op. 131a for violin were written in the spring of 1914 during Reger's convalescent stay in Merano.
