Description:
Vivaldi achieved European fame with the collection "L'estro armonico" op. 3. He wrote the cycle of twelve violin concertos for the orchestra of the Ospedale della Pietà, whose teacher and director he was for many years. The two fast outer movements from opus 3/3 feature ritornellos typical of the period, combined with soloistic, more demanding sections. The ritornello form structures the movements and gives the pupil, who takes on both the solo and tutti parts in this edition, the opportunity to dynamically differentiate recurring motifs. In the short but expressive Largo, striking quarter notes alternate with tied, string-spanning chains of semiquavers, allowing the pupil to apply and improve various bowing techniques.
