Description:
The four "Märchenbilder" for piano and viola or violin ad libitum op. 113 are the first chamber music work that Schumann composed during his time in Düsseldorf. Schumann thus continues the series of cycles with character pieces that he began in 1849. With these pieces - even more so than with the Romances for oboe - it makes sense to produce a new version for violoncello, because here the cello can reproduce large sections in the original viola register in a very similar color.
This arrangement of the "Mächenbilder" for cello and piano is by Robert Hausmann (1852-1909), one of the most famous cellists of the 19th century, and is characterized by a great closeness to the original, which also reveals the sensitive handling of the original in terms of dynamics and articulation.
