Description:
It is said that Saint-Saëns was inspired to write the main theme of his Havanaise by the crackling fireplace in a hotel during a tour in the fall of 1885 with the later dedicatee Rafael Diaz Albertini. Whether the choice of the Habanera (French Havanaise), with its typical dance rhythm in duple time, alluded to the Cuban origins of the violinist friend when the composition was written two years later can no longer be determined. In any case, both the original and the orchestral version of the composition were very well received from the beginning. Ingolf Turban could be won for the line markings of the brilliant violin part.
