Description:
Jules Massenet is considered one of the great masters of French opera. Thanks to its emotional expressiveness, the famous "Méditation" from his opera "Thaïs" (1894) remains one of the most popular works in the violin repertoire and has appeared in numerous arrangements. This version for violin and piano was made by Martin Pierre Marsick (1847–1924), who, like Massenet, was a professor at the Conservatoire in Paris. In this still popular arrangement, the orchestral accompaniment is skilfully transcribed for the piano. With a fine sense of sound and balance, it allows for an interpretation that is both intimate and compelling – ideal for teaching, study and performance. This edition is based on the first edition published by Heugel & Cie. Paris in 1894. The Henle edition offers a reliable version of the text which is faithful to the original.
