Description:
This work for solo violin is aimed at violinists at an advanced level, and is suitable for concerts, but also as an examination piece for the Musisches Gymnasium, the music school, or the university. The suite adheres to Baroque models, but conveys a modern, moderately dissonant work with the fingering perfectly adapted to the violin. Throughout all movements there are rhythmic echoes of J. S. Bach's First Suite in G major for solo cello, which give the work an additional authentic touch. The sequence of movements corresponds to the pattern of a series of dance movements created in Bach's time, which can be found in many solo works for violin, violoncello, and also in orchestral suites. Horst Rudolf Windhagauer was born in 1955 in Gmunden in Upper Austria and grew up in Nuremberg. He has lived with his family near Bamberg since 1988. He studied violoncello in Nuremberg and was a teacher at the Musisches Gymnasium in Erlangen until 2021. He is the author of a string symphony, created works and arrangements for cello quartet, various chamber music works, and a number of works for school and teaching. Over the years, he developed a very personal tonal language, which is based on Baroque models and a moderate late Romantic-postmodern style.
