Edmund Severn (1862-1942) was an American composer and violinist. Born in England, he studied in Berlin and elsewhere. He wrote works for solo violin, orchestra and string quartet. His best-known work is "Polish Dance".
In the style of a mazurka, the piece invites you to dance and unfolds its unmistakable local color. Numerous ritardandi and rubati provide rhythmic spice. Large leaps, double stops and three-part chords create an attractive melody and harmony. And an expressive dynamic brings momentum to the Polish dance!
