Description:
Even in antiquity, language and music were one and the same: Homer's epics were sung and, thanks to the highly developed art of oratory (rhetorica), words appealed to reason and music to the soul. From Monteverdi onwards, the musical interpretation of the text took on an even more important role: rhetorical terms such as exclamatio, saltus duriusculus and climax were transferred to the music in order to make the emotional world of the text even more expressive.
This compositional method was the inspiration for the composer when designing his violin piece Rhetorica. He writes about his work: My aim was to make even the smallest musical elements so 'eloquent' that the music, even without words, vividly narrates the moments of a human life with all its highs and lows.
