Series: "Denkmäler der Musik in Salzburg", facsimile editions, volume 5, presented by Michael Lutz.

Biber's violin style is already evident in this early sonata (Chafe 146): Finger run passages, double stops and programmatic elements can be recognized. Biber's sonata is framed by two French-oriented movements. It begins with a two-part prelude. The subsequent fugato in combination with the introduction is reminiscent of a French overture. The fugato section finally leads into a series of triadic chords, the brilliant sound of which does not fail to have an effect on the listener with the appropriate bowing technique. Unusually, the sonata concludes with an allamanda. While the introduction allows a presentation of technical skills, the concluding dance movement demands stylistic sensitivity. In between there is an extended section in which imitations of animal voices alternate with free passages. In addition to various bird calls ("Nachtigal", "Henne", "Hann", "Vachtel"), Biber also lets frogs and cats make their voices heard.
