Description:
Despite the title, this is quite a virtuoso composition for the violinist. The first movement is a kind of rhapsody, almost improvisatory in style, which makes full use of the violin's double-stopping abilities. The second movement is a rhythmically nervous scherzo, sometimes almost violent and aggressive, sometimes wistful. The finale is slow and lyrical, and its melancholy character is emphasized by the chromatically descending bass line.
