When Tchaikovsky showed his Violin Concerto to the famous Russian violin teacher Leopold Auer for viewing, the latter rejected the concerto as unplayable - later he revised his opinion and even arranged an edition for violin and piano himself. Numerous influential music critics of the time also criticized the concert, only to change their minds later. Today, the Tchaikovsky Concerto has long been part of the unavoidable standard repertoire for soloists as well as serious study.
Our new edition of Tchaikovsky's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D major op. 35 is based on the first edition of the score. Discrepancies could be clarified on the basis of the autograph of 1878.
The piano reduction was recreated in a practice-oriented manner on the basis of the piano reduction, which presumably originated from the composer himself. The violin part of the piano score of our new edition follows the first edition of the score. The enclosed solo part essentially follows the enclosed violin part of the first edition for violin and piano.
