Description:
Although the British composer Herbert Howells (1892-1983) is rather known for his church music compositions, he caused a stir, especially in his early years, with a number of chamber music works, such as the Piano Quartet which was highly regarded by his teacher Charles Villiers Stanford. The present Violin Sonata was composed as early as 1911, thus being one of his early works. His Violin Sonata in B flat minor Op. 18 of the same name (published with product number BH 12262) was not completed until in 1918, i.e. several years after the present edition.
