Description:
for high soprano voice and tenor recorder or transverse flute
While reading Brentano's romantically resonant "Abendständchen," the idea of a duet between a soprano voice and a flute instrument came to me quite naturally.
With such an enigmatic opening and Weber's downright experimental, halting style, I was drawn to capture the surreal mood of the texts with two voices.
Voice and recorder (or flute)—both carried by the breath—attempt here to uncover the "hidden connection between the most distant things" (Eichendorff on Brentano).
Basel, November 1995, Hans-Martin Linde
