Description:
Christmas play for children with new songs and texts by Ilona Schmitz-Jeromin.
In six short scenes, the Christmas story is based on the Gospel of Luke 2, 1-20. The story is told, sung and acted from the point of view of some children in the town of Bethlehem. The story remains in the time of that time, and is conveyed and addressed through spoken and song texts. The song arrangements are varied, e.g. there are songs with a chorus, solo singing, kyrie song and canon. A large stage set is not necessary. The following props are sufficient: a town sign "Bethlehem", an inn sign "Zum fröhlichen Lämmchen", a manger and a hint of a stable, a shepherd's fireplace and an old, floppy hat. A disguise can be made with cloaks, but is not absolutely necessary. This Christmas carol play is suitable for family services on Christmas Eve as well as for other Christmas celebrations. In this draft, the Gospel reading is anchored in the play, but it is also possible to read the text in advance or remove it completely. Christmas carols from the congregation can be integrated into the play. The cast is variable. Suggested are: 4 village children, 1 shepherd boy, Mary and Joseph, innkeeper with helpers, 4 shepherds, angel, 1 narrator. However, the roles can also be divided up differently, so that more or fewer children are involved.
